The Thomas Cup team had a good start in the first round of the group match overcoming England 3-0 at the Kunshan Sports Centre Stadium in China.  National No.1 Lee Chong Wei got the ball rolling when he outclassed Toby Penty of England in straight games, 21/15, 21/11in just 34 minutes to give Malaysia its first point.

The next victory came for Commonwealth champions, Goh V Shem/ Tan Wee Kiong who were also too strong for their English opponents, Marcus Ellis/ Chris Langridge, winning the match 21/12, 21/17.

In the second singles, Chong Wei Feng had a stroll in the park thrashing Sam Parsons, 21/10, 21/10. Wei Feng who left the national team last month said that even if he is no more with BAM, he is always thankful to the association for the knowledge and opportunity given and nothing is going to deter him from giving his very best to bring back the Thomas Cup.

Since Malaysia is still in the group stage, they had to complete all five matches. Former nationals, Koo Kien Keat/ Tan Boon Heong failed to get the better of Peter Briggs/ Thomas Wolfenden losing their match in three games but Goh Soon Huat won his last match against Alex Lane, 21/15, 1921, 21/13 making it an overall score of 4-1 to Malaysia.

The team will next face Germany tomorrow and a win will give them very high possibilities of making it to the quarter-finals stage. As for the Uber Cup team, they lost 5-0 to reigning champions, China and will face Denmark tomorrow.
