AMELIA/ FIE CHO IS CAPABLE OF PULLING OFF ANOTHER UPSET AGAINST WORLD NO. 1

Despite facing some hiccups in the last three tournaments in Europe, Malaysia’s womens’ doubles, Amelia Alicia Anscelly/ Soong Fie Cho came back stronger to march into the quarter-finals of the Taihot China Open Superseries Premier. The SEA Games champion defeated Jung Kyung Eun/ Shin Seung Chan of Korea in two games, 21/18, 21/19 to face top seeds, Misaki Matsutomo/ Ayaka Takahashi. However, who can forget the memorable victory of Amelia/ Fie Cho when they stunned the world No.1 during the third round of the World Championships back in August this year. Hence, they stand a good chance against the Japanese tomorrow.

Amelia/ Fie Cho who are currently world No. 19 are nine ranks behind teammates, Vivian Hoo/ Woon Khe Wei. Although it is very proud to see two pairs in the top twenty, only one pair can qualify for the RIO Olympics next year unless both pairs are ranked in the top eight. Therefore, they have to work really hard in the next six months to make it to Rio.

Olympic silver medalist, Lee Chong Wei was dragged to a rubber set match against youngster, Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei before prevailing 21/9, 15/21, 21/12. He will next be up against Jan O Jorgensen of Denmark which he is expected to win. National top pair, V Shem/ Wee Kiong however were unsuccessful once again playing against Matthias Boe/ Cartsen Morgensen of Denmark. The pair lost 21/17, 16/21, 12/21 to the Danish.
