Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong came within a whisker of reaching the semi-finals against world No 1, Kevin Sukamuljo-Marcus Gideon in a closely contested 34-minute battle at the Istora Gelora Bung Karno, Jakarta. Malaysia’s leading pair matched their opponents from the off but it was the homesters that sealed the win 22-20 21-19.

Earlier, teammates Teo Ee Yi-Ong Yew Sin in their maiden Asian Games campaign were undone by old foes; Fajar Alfian-Rian Ardianto 17-21 13-21 one day after upsetting world No 3 Takeshi Kamura-Keigo Sonoda of Japan, in the second round.
