BAM PLAYERS COMPETING AT CHINESE TAIPEI GRAND PRIX GOLD

The Yonex Open Chinese Taipei Grand Prix Gold which will be held next week at Taipei Arena from 28 June – 3 July will have at least fifteen players from the national team competing in this tournament.

In the absence of top men’s singles, Lee Chong Wei, BAM will be represented by two Thomas cuppers, Iskandar Zulkarnain and Goh Soon Huat while the women’s singles will have Ho Yen Mei in action.

Thirteenth seed, Iskandar is scheduled to play against Indonesian junior, Firman Abdul Kholik and the national No. 2 has a good chance of progressing to the next round where he will meet the winner between Derek Wong of Singapore or a qualifier.

Goh Soon Huat will face a qualifier in the first round, however he has an uphill task in the second round when he meets two-time Olympic champion, Lin Dan. As for Ho Yen Mei, she plays against a local, Shuo Yun Sung for a place in the next round in the women’s singles category.

 

In the men’s doubles, Goh V Shem/Tan Wee Kiong and Ong Yew Sin/Teo Ee Yi will unfortunately have to meet each other in the second round should both pairs win their respective first round matches. V Shem/Wee Kiong will be up against Lin Chia Yu/Hsiao-Lin Wu of Chinese Taipei while Yew Sin/Ee Yi faces Yohanes Rendy Sugiarto/Hantoro, a new pair from Indonesia.

 

Malaysia Open Superseries Premier runner-up, Chan Peng Soon/Goh Liu Ying have been drawn as the top seeds and the pair has a good chance to go far in this tournament based on their performance. Another pair that is hoping to stamp their mark are national champions, Tan Kian Meng/Lai Pei Jing.

 

Commonwealth champions, Vivian/Khe Wei received a bye in the first round and awaiting them in the next round will either be Hsieh Pei Chen/Wu Ti Jung of Chinese Taipei or Thai pair, Chaladchalam Chayanit/Phataimas Muenwog. Menawhile, Chow Mei Kuan/Lee Meng Yean will be battle it out against locals, Hsu Ya Ching/Pai Yu Po.
