Malaysia will have four representatives in the quarter-finals stage of the Yonex Korea Junior Open Badminton Championships 2015. 18 year-old Chin Wai Kin who is competing in the Under-19 category had to go through four rounds before reaching the last eight where he defeated Park Min Hyuk of Korea, 23/21, 16/21, 21/13. Moreover, he is the only foreigner to make it to this stage and therefore, his next opponent is another Korean who pulled of an upset against top seed, Korakrit Laotrakul of Thailand in three games.
Wai Kin should make use of this opportunity that he has earned by focusing and doing well in his next game. His best result this year was a quarter-finals finish at the Maybank Malaysia International Youth Under-19 championship. A win here will give him more chances of being roped into the senior team as this is his final year in the junior squad.
In the girls’ singles, M. Thinaah failed to get the better of Kim Hyang Im losing the match in three games, 16/21, 21/17, 17/21. She however bounced back from the defeat to win her doubles with partner Teoh Mei Xing. They won the match against Kim Han Sol/ Shon Min Hee in two games. Mei Xing was also through to the quarter –finals in her mixed doubles with partner, Wong Wai Jun who won his doubles with Sim Guo Zheng.
