Lee Chong Wei displayed one of his best games this evening to prevail against world No. 1 Chen Long of China. The match that lasted for almost an hour belonged to the Malaysian as he dominated the whole match and eventually won 21/15, 21/11. Although there were many long rallies, Chong Wei was the winner and Chen Long was seen struggling to narrow the gap but to no avail.

For many reasons, his victory in China is going to be a very significant one. He defeated two time Olympic champion, Lin Dan after almost four years in the semi-finals yesterday and today he was able to avenge his defeat to Chen Long whom he lost the world title to back in August. In addition, his success here has made him only the fourth Malaysian to clinch title on Chinese ground.

Above all, he has achieved this feat that was once done by his very own wife, Wong Mew Choo who became the giant killer in 2007 when she defeated Lin Dan’s wife, Xie Xing Fang in the finals. Ironically, both Chong Wei and Mew Choo defeated the world number ones at the China Open. The olympic silver medalistone will now head to Hong Kong to compete in the Hong Kong Open Superseries next week followed by the Macau Open Grand Prix Gold.
