Lee Chong Wei was once again at his best form when he marched into the quarter-finals of the Badminton Asia Championships in Wuhan, China. His opponent from Hong Kong, Wong Wing Ki was sent packing after the two times Olympic silver medalist defeated him in straight games, 23-21, 21-12.
“Although I struggled in the first set, I am glad I managed to reduce my mistakes and played a more consistent game in the second one. My quarter-finals match will be against Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei and I hope that I’ll stay focus to win my match tomorrow,” said Chong Wei from a telephone conversation from China.
It was however the end of the road for women’s doubles and mixed doubles pair of Vivian Hoo/ Woon Khe Wei and Tan Kian Meng/ Lai Pei Jing. Vivian/ Khe Wei were very close of making it to the quarter-finals, unfortunately, two errors in the second set caused them the whole match.
The Malaysians won the first game against Nitya Krishinda Maheswari/ Greysia Polii of Indonesia, 21-18 and were leading 20-18 in the second game before allowing their opponents to catch up and win the match 22-20. The third game was disappointing as the Malaysians lost 11-21.
Hence, all eyes will be on Lee Chong Wei who will be the sole survivor at the Championships.
