CHONG WEI WINS THIRD CONSECUTIVE TITLE DESPITE FATIGUE IN HONG KONG

Malaysia’s badminton diamond, Lee Chong Wei was just superb on court when he faced the energetic youngster from China, Tian Houwei in the finals of the Yonex- Sunrise Hong Kong Open Superseries. Unlike yesterday’s match, Chong Wei did not allow his opponent to take the lead, instead, he made sure that he stayed focused and in both games, he led 20-15 to wrap up the match, 21/16, 21/15 in 49 minutes.

When asked on his feelings after winning his third consecutive title, the Penangite could only say one thing and that made his fans burst out laughing.

“I am just so tired and that is exactly how I’m feeling at the moment. I would also like to this time to thank my fans, my coaches for their guidance and my wife who is here with me in Hong Kong,” said Chong Wei after his match.

The former world number is expected to break into the top five of the world rankings with his success today. More than that, Chong Wei can proudly say that he has defeated the top four badminton players from China in his last three tournaments. In the French Open, he prevailed against Wang Zhengming in the semifinals. Then, he went on to defeat the mighty Lin Dan and Chen Long at the China Open before coming to Hong Kong to take on Tian Houwei in the finals.

This success will surely boost his confidence level knowing that he did face some struggles in the last two months. If the Olympic silver medalist can maintain his game, there is a very high possibility of him being in the squad for the Olympics.
