The Victor Indonesia International Challenge saw three singles players progressing to the next round round in the Sudirman badminton hall in Surabaya. Liew Daren and Soo Teck Zhi did not have an easy passage against their Indonesian opponents winning the match in three games. Tech Zhi will meet Korean, Lee Hong Je while Daren will be playing against Pannawit Thongnuam of Thailand. Currently ranked 86 in the world, Daren will need to raise his game to motivate him to do better in the next matches after having disappointing outings in the last few tournaments. His best results this year was winning the Yonex Polish Open back in March.
In the womens’ singles, Lee Ying Ying defeated Guniarti Rafika Mutiara of Indonesia in the qualifying round and overcame another Indonesian, Ana Rovita today in straight games. The Penangite has a tough second round match when she meets the runner-up from the recently concluded Singapore Intenational Series, Yeo Jia Min of Singapore tomorrow for a place in the quarter-finals.
