FORMER WORLD NUMBER CONTINUES HIS FINE RUN IN THE FRENCH OPEN

As it was expected, national number one, Lee Chong Wei was too strong for Sho Sasaki of Japan in the quarter-final of the Yonex French Open Superseries early this morning. He has never lost to the Japanese in their previous four meetings and he clearly did not give in this time as well. He won the match easily, 21/9, 21/12 in just 36 minutes.

Chong Wei’s next opponent in the semi-finals will be Wang Zhengming of China whom he has a remarkable 14-0 head to head record. The Malaysian has so far been consistent to maintain his unbeaten record against Viktor Axelsen and Sho Sasaki and he is expected to continue this feat when he faces the world number nine tonight. This will also be his first superseries semi-finals after his eight months break.

Joining him in the mens’ singles semi-finals will be Chao Tien Chen and Jan O Jorgensen and Chong Wei surely stand a god chance to lift the title in the absence of world number one, Chen Long who pulled out after winning the Denmark Open last week. A good show here will also see him improving in the world rankings.
