Malaysia’s top doubles pair, Goh V Shem/ Tan Wee Kiong smashed their way to the finals of the 2015 K&D Graphics Yonex Grand Prix being held in California. The pair defeated Chen Hung Ling/ Wang Chi-Lin of Chinese Taipei in a very close match that ended in 21/19, 24/22. This will be the third finals for the Malaysian this year after emerging as the runner-ups at the Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold and the Russian Open Grand Prix.
In addition, they will be meeting their rivals, fellow Russians, Vladimir Ivanov/ Ivan Sozonov who crushed their hopes of clinching their first title in the finals of the Russia Open back in July this year. This is the right time for V Shem/ Wee Kiong to avenge their defeat to the Macau Open runner-ups and win their first title of the year.
"Although we have lost to them before, it doesn't mean that tomorrow is going to be the same. Wee Kiong and I are prepared to battle it out against Vladimir/ Ivan and we are definitely going to give our best and snatch the title back from them," said V Shem from CAlifornia.
Despite losing to the Russians, the 2014 Commonwealth champions did not give up easily. The match was another tough fight between the two pairs with the Russians eventually winning, 22/20, 21/19, hence giving the confidence that the Malaysians are not far behind in terms of their level of play but they just need be more focused and consistent. V Shem/ Wee Kiong will have to keep their momentum going as they are aware that winning a title here will not only motivate them but will also help to improve their ranking and qualify for the Olympics next year.
