Indonesia’s upcoming star, Gregoria Mariska was the winner against Malaysian, Tee Jing Yi in the womens’ singles final of the Victor Indonesia International Challenge today. This is her second consecutive title winning the OUE Singapore International Series two weeks ago. Despite losing the match, Jing Yi did not give in easily to the Indonesian losing the match in three games, 15/21, 21/15, 7/21 in 50 minutes.
As for Jing Yi, time is ticking to qualify for next year’s Olympics in Rio. The qualification period will end next May and she has to continue performing well to secure a spot in the world’s most prestigious game. In other matches, Indonesia proved their dominance sweeping all five categories today.
The highlight was on Sony Dwi Koncoro who won his first title for the year in the mens’ singles event defeating Jeon Hyeok Jin in straight games. The 2009 World Championships bronze medalist has been performing below par losing in the first round of five tournaments this year. Sony is surely hoping to make a third appearance in the Olympics, being a bronze medalist in 2004 Athens Olympics and a quarter-finalist in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
