JUNIORS DOING WELL IN UNDER-19 TOURNEY

It was great to see most of the junior shuttlers making it to the quarter-finals today at Juara Stadium, Bukit Kiara. The Maybank Malaysia International Youth U-19 that has attracted more than 10 countries is one of the platforms to identify potential players to represent the country in the future.

Mixed doubles pair, Wong Wai Jun/ Eng Pui Yee who shocked the top seed in yesterday’s match were again displaying their best game after getting the better Chinese Taipei pair, Lu Chen/ Lin Hsiang Ti in the third round today. Besides them, three other pairs also won their matches today.

M. Thinaah was through to the quarter-finals together with Pearly Tan and Yap Yee in the girls’ singles. The 15 year-old Pearly who is one the youngest players competing in the tournament showed fighting spirit to overcome her opponent from Chinese Taipei, Chang Hsin Ping, 21/18, 21/11.

The boys’ singles saw M. Sathiestharan with four others marching into the quarter-finals tomorrow. Sathies once again did not face any difficulties against ninth seed, Mek Naronggrit of Thailand. Except for Yeoh Seng Zoe, three other players, Lee Zii Jia, Tan Jia Wei and Chin Wai Kin won their matches in straight games.
