Malaysia will have two representative in the finals of the Kawasaki-Tran Local Foods Vietnam International Series after mixed doubles pair, Tan Kian Meng/ Peck Yen Wei and womens’ singles, Goh Jin Wei defeated their Indonesia opponents today. Unfortunately, our mens’ doubles were beaten today despite giving a good fight. Low Juan Shen/ Tai An Kang and Teo Ee Yi/ Tan Wee Gieen were defeated by Indonesian pairs in three games.
As for our mixed doubles pair, this is their first final as Kian Meng was a singles player before while Yen Wei use to compete more in the womens’ doubles than mixed doubles. The duo were in great form today to outclass the top seed, Hafiz Faisal/ Shella Devi Aulia 18/21, 22/20, 21/18 in a very exciting match that lasted for almost an hour.
Although they were only paired up together few months ago, they have shown improvement in terms of their partnership especially here in Vietnam. They will next be up against an unseeded pair from Indonesia, Rian Swastedian/ Masita Mahmudin for a chance of clinching their first ever international title.
In addition, the second good news came from none other than Malaysia’s pocket wonder, Goh Jin Wei who has once again proved that she is a class above the others checking into the finals of the womens’ singles. At the age of 15 when many others are still sharpening their skills, she has already won the national title as well as an international title. She defeated the second seed in today’s semifinals match and she faces Chen Su Yu of Chinese Taipei tomorrow afternoon.
