The Chinese team proved that they were one class above during the mixed team event of the BWF World Junior Championships when they defeated Malaysia 3-0 to qualify for the semi-finals. Malaysia had earlier beaten India 4-1 to top Group A2 and the only defeat came from boys’ doubles pair, Aaron Chia Teng Fong/ Soh Wooi Yik losing their match to Arjun M. R/ Chirag Shetty, 19/21, 19/21.
In the same day, Malaysia played against China and the mixed doubles pair of Chen Qingchen/ Zheng Siwei gave China the first point after overcoming Malaysia’s Tan Jin Hwaa/ M. Thinaah 21/10, 21/11. Cheam June Wei came close to making it a tie but unfortunately he went down to the reigning World Junior Champion, Lin Guipu in three games, 23/21, 20/22, 10/21. China then secured its wining point from boys’ doubles, He Jiting/ Zheng Siwei who defeated Aaron Chia Teng Fong/ Goh Sze Fei in three games.
Since the Malaysian juniors came second in the group stage match, they will now have to compete for 5th – 8th placing. They will meet Hong Kong China tomorrow morning and two other countries in the group are Thailand and Denmark.
