MALAYSIA IS EXPECTED TO HAVE REPRESENTATIVES IN ALL FIVE EVENTS AT RIO

The provisional list for the Rio Olympics is out and although it may not be the confirmed list yet, Malaysia for the first time may have representatives in all five events in Brazil. If this really happens, it definitely is a progress as Malaysia use to be represented in only two events during the 1990’ and then three to four after the millennium.

The reason why it is a provisional list is because there are several criteria that has to be met and that includes the approval from the National Olympic Committees (NOCs) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The official list will only be published after 18 July 2016.

As for now, those who have made it are Lee Chong Wei, Tee Jing Yi, Tan Wee Kiong/ Goh V Shem, Vivian Hoo/ Woon Khe Wei and Chan Peng Soon/ Goh Liu Ying,

Chong Wei who has more a less confirmed his place will be competing in his fourth Olympic while it will be the second time for women’s singles, Tee Jing Yi and and mixed doubles pair of Chan Peng Soon/ Goh Liu Ying who participated in the 2012 London Olympics.

As for V Shem/ Wee Kiong and Vivian/ Khe Wei who will most probably make their debut appearance in the prestigious tournament, it surely is a joy as the 2014 Commonwealth champions has worked very hard in the last one year despite the challenges they faced.

In addition, the fierce yet healthy competition from former nationals, Koo Kien Keat/ Tan Boon Heong kept V Shem/ Wee Kiong on the edge of their seats knowing that if they are not consistent in the tournaments they compete, there is a high possibility of them not realizing their dreams of making it to Rio.
