Three pairs made it to the finals at the Bangladesh Open International Badminton Challenge but unfortunately, they were not able to clinch the title. Tan Wee Gieen failed to make it a double joy as he lost his mixed doubles and mens’ doubles today. Despite losing to Singaporeans, Terry Hee Yong Kai/ Tan Wei Han, Wee Gieen who is partnering Shevon Lai for the first time did well to reach his first finals. They lost the match in three games, 10/21, 21/19, 12/21.
In the mens’ doubles, he was once again with a new partner, Tan Chee Tean and they both started off this tournament with convincing wins to come thus far. However, Wee Gieen was playing two events and moreover, he had a tiring semi-finals match yesterday. Besides that, before playing his doubles, he had to play a rubber set in the mixed doubles.
The fatigue may have caused him to run out of gas and eventually losing his match to Pranaav Jerry Chopra/ Akshay Dewalkar of India 16/21, 16/21. However, this being his first tournament with two new partners and making it to the finals is certainly considered a good results
The other defeat came from womens’ doubles, Lim Yin Loo/ Lee Meng Yean who were unable to get the better of their opponents from Thailand. They lost the match to Chlaladchalam Chayanit/ Phataimas Muenwong, 15/21, 19/21. The players will next compete in the India International Challenge next week.
