MALAYSIAN TEAM SHOWS STRONG PERFORMANCE IN POLAND

The number of players we have in the semi-finals stage of the Varcolor Polish International Series is surely promising as Malaysia had more than five representatives who will compete later tonight. Malaysia is assured a spot in the finals of the mens’ and womens’ singles when Iskandar faces teammate Soong Joo Ven while Goh Jin Wei plays against Ho Yen Mei.

The others who also marched into the semi-finals were Lim Chiew Sien, mens’ doubles pair of Ow Yao Han/ Chooi Kah Ming and mixed doubles pair, Chow Mei Kuan/ Wong Fai Yin. Womens’ doubles pair and Belgian International runner-up were the only casualty when they were defeated by Chloe Birch/ Jessica Pugh of England in the quarter-finals stage.

While Iskandar has beaten compatriot Joo Ven twice in the Perak Open in July and the Singapore International Series last month, today’s match can go either way as Joo Ven has also been showing progress in last few tournaments. As for Jin Wei, the 15 year-old will be gunning for her second title in two weeks. In addition, Ho Yen Mei and Chiew Sien did come back stronger after losing in the early rounds at the Belgian International last week. It was unfortunate as the three girls with Lim Yin Fun were drawn in the same half which almost seemed like a local circuit.

Yao Han/ Kah Ming were also performing their best this week compared to last week when they were defeated in the first round. They will be up against Kasper Antonsen/ Niclas Nohr of Denmark for a place in the finals, while mixed doubles, top seeds, Wong Fai Yin/ Chow Mei continued to display a fine game to meet Anton Kaisti/ Jenny Nystrom of Finland later tonight.
