It was one very challenging match but the perseverance both players had was remarkable in today’s quarter-finals match. Ooi Zhi Heng/Soh Wooi Yik stormed their way into the semi-finals of the Badminton Asia Junior Championships in Bangkok.

The pair defeated Sang Min Lee/Sung Seung Na of Korea in a thrilling match that saw both players at 19-19 in the deciding game with the Malaysians eventually winning the match 21-19.

They will next face Han Chengkai/Zhou Haodong in the semi-finals tomorrow afternoon. It was indeed a great effort by this pair who currently trains under former national, Cheah Soon Kit. Malaysia however suffered a blow in the boy’s and girl’s singles category after Lee Zii Jia and Goh Jin Wei were shown the exit this afternoon.

Zii Jia was beaten by Lee Chia Hao of Chinese Taipei while Kim Ga Eun of Korea ruined Jin Wei’s chance of making it into the top four. Both players did give their best but it was not good enough to win the match. Jin Wei still has two more years to go and the 16 year-old will have to continue to stay strong as her next big mission will be the World Junior Championships in

In the mixed doubles event, Chen Tang Jie/Pearly Tan failed to get the better of Koreans, Kim Won Ho/Lee Yu Rim losing the match in two games. Despite the lost, the players performed well to reach the quarter-finals as they were just paired up few weeks ago.
