Although it was not a complete match, Jin Wei was still a happy child after clinching the women’s singles Division 1 title during the Celcom Axiata National Circuit First Leg in Juara Stadium Bukit Kiara.

The match that saw Tee Jing Yi, the national No. 1 conceding a walkover was not something the 16 year-old expected. Jin Wei was leading 11-2 before Jing Yi decided to retire due to an ankle injury that she succumbed while playing against Lee Ying Ying in the semi-finals yesterday.

Despite winning the match, Jin Wei admitted that it was not the best feeling to win in such manner.

“I am glad I won but it’s not that satisfying. I did prepare myself for the match knowing how difficult it is to defeat Jing Yi. I lost to her twice last year and was hoping for an upset today.”

“However, I hope that Jing Yi will have a speedy recovery as she has a number of tournaments to compete in the next few weeks,” said Jin Wei after the match.

This is Jin Wei’s second title as the first one was during last year’s KL Open where she defeated Lim Yin Fun in one of the longest match of the tournament.

In the men’s singles, Chong Wei Feng who is competing as an independent shuttler after leaving BAM last month lived up to the expectation when he overcame Goh Giap Chin of Penang 21-16, 16-21, 21-15.

The women’s doubles saw Amelia Anscelly/Teoh Mei Xing creating an upset against the more experienced pair of Chow Mei Kuan/Lee Meng Yean in three games. Mei Xing was overjoyed with the results as this was her first national title and she also mentioned that she learned a lot throughout the whole tournament.

”I am thankful to Amelia for guiding me during our matches. I still can’t believe we won but I am going to make sure that I continue to work hard in improving my game,” said the delighted Mei Xing before the prize giving ceremony.

As for Tan Kian Meng/ Lai Pei Jing, they knew that they were the favorites to win the mixed doubles title being the top seed in the tournament and they proved it by defeating teammates, Tan Chee Tean/Lai Pei Jing in two games today. Their next assignment will be the Australia Open Superseries which will be played in Sydney next month.

The final match was the men’s doubles between Ong Yew Sin/Teo Ee Yi and Mohd Zakry Ab Latif/Hafizi Hashim. Yew Sin/Ee Yi did not face much difficulties winning the match 21-14, 21-9 mainly because they had the speed and stamina on the court compared to their opponents.
